The Añi Ita project (Soul of the Flower, in Mixtec) is the master plan for creating a national network of Active Ecological Infrastructure. The "Pollinator Islands" are not just patches of flowers; they are strategically designed bioproductivity engines integrated into productive landscapes, adapted to the region to generate a virtuous cycle.
Furthermore, Añi Ita integrates data science, ecological knowledge, and accessible technology to support the large-scale implementation of these solutions.
The Problem
We face a brutal paradox: to feed a growing population, industrial agriculture has drained the land of life. Each hectare of monoculture, though productive in the short term, becomes a desert for pollinators, unbalances the ecosystem, degrades the soil, and makes us dependent on chemical inputs.
This dependency is a strategy that leads us toward food insecurity and ecological collapse, sacrificing long-term resilience for short-term efficiency. The solution is not to stop agriculture but to reinvent it by restoring fundamental ecological interactions.

Mexico's Pollinators: Nature's Little Heroes
Pollinators are essential for plant reproduction, as they transport pollen between flowers, allowing new fruits and seeds to grow. It is estimated that 90% of flowering plants depend on them.
Bees
Bees, in all their forms, provide us with products like honey, pollen, and wax. They are fundamental to our diet.
Stingless Bees
These bees, like Scaptotrigona mexicana, use chemical and thermal signals to call their companions to new food sources.
Butterflies
They are mainly active during the day and help pollinate many plants, contributing to the biodiversity of the flora.
Moths
Although some species, like the black witch moth, are associated with myths related to death, their true role is to pollinate night-blooming plants, being essential for the balance of many ecosystems.
Bats
Agave-visiting bats, which can live up to 12 years, are key pollinators, especially for nocturnal plants.
Hummingbirds
These tiny, agile birds not only fly forwards and backward but also consume their weight in nectar every day, contributing to the pollination of many flowers.
